I haven't blogged in a while because I felt it would be disrespectful. My hometown is Minneapolis, and when George Floyd was murdered by police there I was horrified but not surprised. I've seen the police treat people of color horribly in Minneapolis and St Paul first hand as well as Chicago where I also lived for years. I am working to be the best ally I can be, by addressing my own prejudices and issues while at the same time being useful to the cause. I wholeheartedly believe that Black Lives Matter, Indigenous Lives Matter, and LGBTQ Lives Matter.
Since the revolution began back home, I've felt it isn't helpful to post a little-read blog about my art career let alone my thoughts on soup or toothpaste flavors via gifs. I've always imagined I'd move back to Minneapolis someday, it's always been my center and my touchstone for where I imagine family and friends to be after over a decade of bouncing around across the US and then the world. To see it on fire from the other side of the world felt immensely isolating. My home is hurting. My home is starting a revolution. My home is fighting for change- the kinds of fights we read about in history books and see on documentaries about dangerous places. My home and my friends are part of history, and I am I'm full support.
With that being said, I have felt the need to get back to communicating. The social unrest is the new normal, and I don't want to downplay that. Keep fighting. I'll keep working on being the best supporter I can be from Australia. I need to keep following my own path simultaneously so I decided it was time to come back to sharing what I've been working on.
So I’m back!
It’s been some time, and I’ve been busy. Since the last time I’ve posted, I’ve completed a variety of new paintings. A few more large scale botanicals...
some random animals...
and some birds.
Everything I paint has been made available to purchase as fine art prints at my Etsy shop in a variety of sizes, so check them out!
I’ve also started a graphics line of clip art, patterns, vector icons, and other graphics that are available to purchase at my Etsy store. The first sets are all insect images (surprise surprise) and I intend to continue monthly with a variety of themed watercolors and digital assets in themes of natural history. Look out for an astronomy-themed set and some mushrooms in the upcoming weeks.
So I’m back to blogging to fill you in and I intend to add some new features. I’m playing with a youtube channel as well and look forward to trying out some ideas I have regarding tutorials and interactive guides so you can participate in science illustration projects with me.
So I'm staying busy and productive. Stay tuned for new paintings, graphics downloads and blogs! Over and out from the Bunker Down Under!
